Abstract

Land degradation in order to eliminate the natural vegetation, which in the definition of the international community refers to desertification, is widely regarded as one of the main considered problems also the salination of the soil is an important factor in desertification. One of the dynamic properties of soil is the soil salinity this characteristic is one of the main problems in arid and semi-arid areas which cover large parts of the lands in Iran. Khuzestan is one of the provinces where the salinity problem in Agriculture is of importance. Especially the southern part of this province, where the land has a heavy texture and underground water level is high, but they have the ability to be modified. This study investigated changes in soil salinity in the area of about 207583/11869 hectares of land in Khuzestan province, satellite image Landsat relating to the years 1973, 1990 and 2000 were geometrically modified and then were used as the main data. Images of correct classification in the form of maps and tables were presented in four periods in GIS systems.
